1.What is it?
Influenza A virus is an acute respiratory infection, highly contagious caused by a new influenza virus of the flu.
2.What can you do to protect yourself from catching influenza A?
· Practise good health habits including adequate sleep, eating nutritious food and keeping physically active.
· Cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze.
· Wash your hands regularly with soap and water or use alcohol-based cleaners.
· Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread this way.
· Improve airflow in your living space by opening windows.
· You may use a medical mask to reduce transmission.
· Try to avoid contact with a sick person.
· Reduce the time spent in crowded places if possible.
3.What are the symptoms?
The symptoms are similar to the seasonal flu:
High fever
Cough
Sore throat
Body aches
Headaches
Feeling unwell/fatigue.
4.What should you do if you think you have the illness?
v Seek medical attention.
v Inform family and friends about your illness.
v Stay at home.
v Keep away from work, school or crowds.
